Two steps to know your hair

Hair care begins with understanding your hair and what it needs to look healthy, nourished and beautiful. And you can do just that in two easy steps.

Step 1: Recognise your hair type

Curly hair

Curly hair tends to be drier than other hair types essentially because it lacks a solid protein structure. This makes curly hair prone to frizz and makes it unmanageable. If you have curly hair, conditioning your hair is very critical. Regular oiling also helps.

Wavy hair

Wavy hair is distinctive because it is not quite straight and not actually curly. Getting a good haircut that accentuates your waves is essential. You can also use light weight products to maintain the volume and bounce of your hair.

Straight hair

Straight hair is often regarded the most convenient to manage. Straight hair also tends to be shinier than other hair types due to the presence of keratin bonds. However, straight hair sometimes tends to fall flat. So, doing a blow out and backcombing while styling your hair can make it appear more voluminous.

Step 2: Pay attention to hair texture and density

Your hair texture affects the fall of your hair and there are three types of textures: fine, normal and coarse. Normal hair is the most common and can be easily manipulated into styles, while coarse hair is the most difficult to work with.

Density of hair on the other hand refers to 'thin, medium and thick'. So, contrary to perception that thick hair is always the best; you could have thick & coarse hair or thick & fine hair etc. Understanding your hair combination will help you in choosing the right styling products, haircuts and hence benefit your hair.
